The history of cities began thousands of years ago when people started to settle in one place instead of moving around to find food. Early cities started near rivers and lands that were good for farming and breeding animals. People came together and built homes, which helped these places turn into cities. With more people living close together, new ideas and ways of doing things were discovered, and human life got better.

  

An important achievement in city development was the invention of writing and record-keeping in ancient Mesopotamia. This helped governments to organise and manage city life better. The government played an important role in making laws, rules, and punishments so that everyone could live peacefully together.

  

As cities grew, people started trading with other cities. They needed a way to pay for things, so money and payment systems appeared. Trading helped cities grow because it brought new goods, people, and ideas.

 

Later on, cities got better at making things like roads, water systems, and ways to keep the city clean. These improvements helped cities work better and made life easier for the people living there.
